What Does Modern-Day Feminism Mean to You?

As we prepare for this Saturday’s webinar, "What Does Modern-Day Feminism Mean to You?", it’s the perfect time to reflect on how feminism has evolved—and what it demands of us today. Feminism is no longer just about gender equality in the workplace or the right to vote (though those battles are far from over). It has expanded into a movement that must be intersectional, inclusive, and intentional in its fight for liberation.

Feminism Beyond White, Cisgender Women

Traditional feminism often centred the struggles of white, middle-class women, ignoring the compounded oppressions faced by Black, Indigenous, disabled, and working-class women. Modern feminism must be intersectional—recognising that sexism doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It intersects with racism, capitalism, and ableism.

- Reproductive justice isn’t just about "choice"—it’s about access, affordability, and the right to parent safely in a world that criminalises Black and Brown mothers.

- Economic justice means fighting for fair wages, affordable childcare, and an end to the exploitation of domestic workers—most of whom are women of colour.

Feminism in the Age of Digital Activism

Social media has amplified feminist movements—from #MeToo to #SayHerName—but it has also exposed fractures. Performative allyship, online harassment, and corporate co-optation dilute radical demands for change. Modern feminism must be action-oriented, not just trending.

- Are we just posting hashtags, or are we donating to mutual aid funds for survivors?

- Are we calling out misogyny in our friend groups, or staying silent to keep the peace?

- Are we challenging the male-dominated structures in our workplaces, schools, and homes?

Feminism as Collective Liberation

True feminism isn’t about individual empowerment—it’s about dismantling systems that harm all marginalized genders. It means:

- Holding abusive men accountable, even (especially) when they’re powerful or beloved.

- Rejecting respectability politics—women shouldn’t have to be "perfect victims" to be believed.

- Centering the most marginalised—because when they are free, we are all freer.

Join the Conversation

This Saturday’s webinar will dive deeper into these questions:

- How does feminism show up in your daily life?

- Where has mainstream feminism failed?

- How can we build a feminism that leaves no one behind?

Modern feminism isn’t a label—it’s a commitment to action. Let’s redefine it together.
